Amp 1: AX84 P1
The first amp I built was the P1 from the AX84 project. It’s produces about 6W supposedly, though I haven’t measured. I soon bought a THD hot plate to bring the output down to a more reasonable volume and I usually keep it at the –16 dB setting.
Lessons Learned
- 6 W is really loud. It’s enough to disturb someone two floors above you.
- Point to point wiring is a terrible idea unless the amp is small.
- Simple amps can sound really nice.
